Davis Funerals wins ICEHOUSE Best Owner Managed Business
at the 2011 Westpac West Auckland Business Awards
To say I was proud as punch would be an understatement as I stood at the podium in the Trusts Stadium on August 26th with Craig and John surrounded by our dedicated team. It's a wonderful feeling to have everything you work so hard to achieve to be recognised by your peers.
It had been quite a journey from the time when with a bit of arm twisting we agreed to enter the 2011 Westpac West Auckland Business Awards. There were a number of categories so our first task was deciding on which to enter. We settled on Excellence in Service, Excellence in Marketing and Best Small Business, the latter as our entry would only be based on our Central Park Drive branch performance.
Angela Little agreed to prepare our entry and several meetings later, combined with advice from Julie Stephens of West Auckland Business and Liz Rainsbury our appointed mentor from Unitec, the entry was complete.
Just being announced as finalists in all three categories we entered was an honour, especially as this was our first attempt. Better still, due to the marks we achieved across the three categories, we received automatic entry to the Best Owner Managed Category. The rest as they say is history.
On the awards night I have to admit to an element of disappointment as our entry categories came and went without a win. We pride ourselves on our quality of service and the service category was one we really hoped to win. I think I had given up, so it was a real surprise when our name was read out for the Icehouse Award.
Probably the most important thing to me was having almost our entire team there to share in what is very much their award. Each and every one of them works so hard to care for our client families and ensure their every need is met. It's wonderful to have that work recognised but I know it's the satisfaction that comes from assisting families on a daily basis that means the most to them.
The Awards have been a wonderful opportunity to promote our business in West Auckland, network with other business owners and take a good look at what we do well and what we could do better. We eagerly anticipate the benefits our prize of participation in the ICEHOUSE program will bring to Davis. We look forward to continuing to serve the families of West Auckland and beyond with the high quality of service that is synonymous with Davis Funerals and true to our motto of Inspiration, Encouragement and Experience.
