When
someone dies
Before we meet with you
It may be helpful to consider a few things before we meet with you. As part of our role as Funeral Directors we need to fulfill two services, the first being the legal requirements relating to a death, the second being carrying out the family’s wishes.
Legal requirements:
There are personal details about the deceased that Davis Funerals will need from the family. This enables us to register the death with the Births, Deaths and Marriages department of Internal Affairs. The following information will be required and will be helpful if the family can obtain prior to meeting with us:
Name and date of birth of deceased
Date and place of death
Age
Sex
Place of birth
How long in NZ (years)
Usual Home Address
Usual Occupation
Ethnic group(s)
Age of Living Daughters
Age of Living Sons
Mother’s Full Name
Mother’s Name at Birth (if different)
Mother’s Occupation
Father’s Full Name
Father’s Name at Birth (if different)
Father’s Occupation
Marital Status at Time of Death
Name of Spouse
Place of Marriage
Funeral Wishes:
You may like to start thinking about the type of funeral you wish to have and if the deceased had left instructions or specific requests to be carried out.
We will help you every step of the way in the decision making process and provide you with any information you may need.
- Did the deceased wish to be buried or cremated?
- Are there are specific requests in the deceased’s will that need to be carried out?
- When you would like to have the funeral?
- What type of service would be suitable – church or chapel, traditional or modern?
- Will you require catering after the funeral?
